Privacy Policy
We explain what we collect, why we collect it, and how you control your data.
Data We Collect
Account details, communication metadata, activity logs (aggregated), and cookie preferences.
We only collect the minimum data necessary to operate News Storyline Courses effectively and securely. Categories include:
- Account identifiers: name (optional), username, email, and authentication tokens.
- Transactional and service data: course enrollments, progress markers, completion timestamps, and invoice references where applicable.
- Technical data: IP address, device type, browser version, preferred language, and general geolocation at the city/region level derived from IP.
- Usage analytics: page paths, referral sources, session length, and engagement with course materials in an aggregated or pseudonymized form.
- Support interactions: messages you send us and information you choose to provide when requesting assistance.
- Cookie preferences: choices for analytics, functional, and essential cookies.
We do not intentionally collect special categories of data (such as health, biometric, or sensitive personal information). Please do not include sensitive data in support messages or free-text inputs.
Sources of data are primarily you, your use of our service, and service logs generated by our systems. In limited cases, we may receive basic referral or subscription data from payment providers to reconcile transactions.
Legal bases for processing include performance of a contract (providing the service you requested), legitimate interests (service security and product improvement), consent (non-essential cookies and optional communications), and legal obligations (record-keeping where required).
Use of Data
We use data to run the service, improve course quality, and communicate updates you opt into.
- Account operation: authenticate you, maintain your session, and provide personalized course progress.
- Service reliability: monitor uptime, detect abuse or fraud, and ensure platform security.
- Product improvement: analyze aggregated usage to refine course structure, navigation, and content relevance.
- Communications: send critical notices about account security, service changes, and transactional messages you request.
- Consent-based updates: deliver newsletters or product updates only when you opt in and until you opt out.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your content for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. When we rely on legitimate interests, we balance those interests against your privacy rights and implement appropriate safeguards.
Where processing involves vendors (for example, hosting, analytics, or email delivery), we require contractual commitments to privacy and security aligned with applicable laws.
Retention
We retain data only as long as necessary to provide the service or comply with law.
- Account data: retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for record-keeping or dispute resolution.
- Course activity: stored to deliver your learning experience and progress; upon deletion requests, we remove or irreversibly anonymize.
- Support messages: kept for audit and quality assurance for a limited period, then deleted or anonymized.
- Technical logs: short-lived, rotating logs maintained to ensure security and reliability, except where incidents require longer retention.
- Legal records: retained for periods required by applicable financial and regulatory laws.
When retention periods expire, we securely delete data or transform it into aggregated, non-identifiable statistics. Backup media follow separate rotation schedules; deletion from backups occurs through normal cycles.
Your Rights
You may access, correct, export, or delete your data. Contact us via the form on the contact page.
Depending on your location, you may have rights to: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. You also may have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
- Access: request a copy of your personal data and an explanation of how we use it.
- Correction: ask us to fix inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion: request deletion where data is no longer needed or where you withdraw consent.
- Portability: obtain your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
- Objection and restriction: object to certain processing or request temporary restriction in specific circumstances.
- Consent withdrawal: change your cookie or communication preferences at any time.
To exercise your rights, please include sufficient details to verify your identity and the nature of your request. We respond within the timeframes required by law and will notify you if we need additional information.
